Memphis Slim (September 3, 1915 – February 24, 1988) was an American blues pianist, singer, and composer. He led a series of bands that, reflecting the popular appeal of jump blues, included saxophones, bass, drums, and piano. A song he first cut in 1947, “Every Day I Have the Blues“, has become a blues standard, recorded by many other artists. He made over 500 recordings.
Memphis Slim’s birth name was John Len Chatman, and he was born in Memphis, Tennessee, United States.

The Blues for me has been passed down for generations. From the humble beginnings of my Great Great Grand parent who were born and raised in the Delta and the Bayou, down to my Grandparents who migrated along the cost to Tennessee , St. Louis and Chicago, then to New York, as did the music. I started my career as a rap artist, but quickly responded to my call for the Blues. As I work on music, I've shot several Independent films, won some awards and produced a few webseries. I worked in the film, Television and Multi Media industry for about ten years, which has lead me to my Blog "Talking Bout The Blues", and we're redesigning it right now for the new year.
A minor observation if I may. The song “Every Day I Have The Blues” was titled “Nobody Loves Me” when originally issued on Miracle 145 (flip side “Angel Child”). The following year Federal reissued that same recording but renamed it “Every Day I Have The Blues” (12007, flip “Life Is Like That) and it’s now always given that title.
